Shabu Shabu House
Posted by Chad under: Food for Thought .
Shabu Shabu House is one of our favorite restuarants in LA. It’s a simple menu. You choose A or B. There’s nothing special about the decor either. The secret is in the ponzu sauce and Angus beef which keeps people lining up for hours just to eat it. In fact, this is one of the places Susanna craved while she was pregnant. We brave the crowds with Elisha in tow frequently and took my parents here when they came to visit.
Both my parents said they liked it, although we are not too sure about my dad as he found a new and creative way to eat it. Rather than waste time using chopsticks and cooking his beef one by one, he dumped the entire plate of beef in the soup and then proceeded to pour the entire bowl of sauce on it. A very efficient, albeit unconventional way to eat Shabu Shabu. He said he enjoyed embarrassing me. But at this restuarant, people don’t talk and don’t have time to observe anyone else, they’re too busy eating.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Chad said Susanna craves this when she was pregnant…I crave this all the time and I’m not even pregnant. Thank God men can’t get pregnant. Btw, shabu shabu is the sound the water makes when you’re cooking the beef in the pot of water. The swishing sound is where the dish gets its name. Shabu shabu translates to “swish-swish”. You know a restaurant is good when there’s a wait even before it opens. Can’t wait for my next shabu shabu meal ![]()
